HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) and Cambodia’s Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), presided over [Ceremony of National Youth Debate on Human Rights 2025], delivered the closing remarks and handed out awards to the winners of the National Youth Debate on Human Rights 2025 organised, in collaboration between the CHRC and the Cambodia’s Representative to the AICHR on 8 August 2025, at the CHRC headquarters.

At the event, HE Ouch Nipon, CHRC Vice-President and Cambodia’s Deputy Representative to the AICHR, highlighted that the National Youth Debate on Human Rights plays a crucial role in selecting outstanding young individuals who will represent Cambodia and its values at the 7th ASEAN Regional Youth Debate on Human Rights; at the same time, it also reaffirms Cambodia’s commitment to building a culture of dialogue, respect, and active participation in the promotion and protection of human rights. This also conveys to the region and the world that Cambodia cares about and invests significantly in its youth by providing them with the opportunity to constructively participate in regional and global human rights discussions, with the voices of the young people here in this room today echoing far beyond this venue.

HE [Keo Remy,] Senior Minister, mentioned that this debate or public speaking contest holds great significance. Even if a participant does not win, they have essentially succeeded by challenging themselves to conduct thorough research on their chosen topics. In addition, he encouraged the three winners and nine reserve contestants to remain humble and composed, yet determined, urging them to deepen their research and continue debating at the regional level with the goal of achieving success as skilled speakers. It should be noted that Cambodia will host the ASEAN Regional Debate on Human Rights in early September 2025.

Finally, HE [Keo Remy,] Senior Minister, extended his congratulations to today’s successful participants and wished them success in the regional competition.
